Our LSSA Certification program is based on the Modular format designed and directed by Janet Kaylo and currently offered at Ryerson University, Toronto CANADA (www.labancan.org ).

JANET KAYLO, Program Director
Founder of Laban/Bartenieff and Somatic Studies International (www.labaninternational.org ) Janet has directed numerous LMA/BF programs and workshops in the UK, Europe, Canada, India and the US.  She will be developing and presenting the curriculum for our inaugural training.

SANDRA KAY LAUFFENBURGER, Administrator of LSSA Program
Founder/director of Laban/Bartenieff and Somatic Studies Australia, Sandra has been teaching and writing about LMA/BF for over 20 years. She has presented movement workshops and papers in the US, Canada, China, Indonesia and Australia.  Currently Australia’s only Certified Movement Analyst, she will coordinate and co-direct the development of the Australian program.

Program Format
In a group format, experiential training and theoretical material  will be offered in a series of six thematically-based 90 hour Modular Intensives.  Two modules will be offered each year, usually during Spring and Autumn school holidays.  In addition to the classroom work, each module will include interim assignments and projects.

The Modular design will be organized around the thematic structure of Body, Effort, Shape, and Space, the four components comprising Laban Movement Analysis.  The course begins with an LMA/BF overview and culminates in a final application project within the student’s chosen field or area of interest.

Modular design allows students to apply aspects of the LMA/BF system to their professional work as they move through the training criteria.

The intensive design supports integration of the LMA/BF material in practical applications between modules.

And the short 2 ½ week intensive format meeting twice yearly means that participants do not have to give up their regular employment to attend.

  • CERTIFICATION in Laban Movement Analysis from LSSI upon completion of all six modules
  • Hands-on repatterning practice and training in Bartenieff Fundamentals sm and developmental elements of Body-Mind Centering ®
  • Training and practice in an integrative model of in-depth movement study, including psychodynamic and phenomenological perspectives

  • 540 contact hours in a somatically-based LMA/BF curriculum
  • Individual contact and support with a Certified LMA advisor
  • Experiential group-based learning, with a high teacher to student ratio
